Geant Vector Prototype

Explore the possibility to recast particle transport so that it takes advantage from the newest technologies

Goals

Development of a new detector simulation exploiting the parallelism which is increasingly offered by the new generations of CPUs. Since simulation is one of the most CPU intensive tasks in modern High Energy Physics it makes sense to explore new design and techniques in this domain.

  • Develop a simulation aimed at achieving maximum performance on parallel architectures
  • Integrated fast and full simulation in the same framework
  • Study parallelism at different granularity levels (multi-processors, multi-cores, vectorisation, GPUs...)
  • Explore the full “phase space” of parallelism in simulation
  • Collaborate with OpenLab
  • Use the large experience that is available in the SFT group on these items (sharing findings, discussions with experiments)
